Working Eight Days a Week (A Challenge for You)
This month’s blog is different; I’m not going to talk about products (boring!). Instead, I would like to take you through my typical week as a Financial Adviser. Throughout this article, there are many titles of Beatles songs; how many can you spot?
Monday Morning
Monday morning saw me visiting a client who wants to increase his potential income once retired. I asked “When do you plan to retire?” He replied “When I’m sixty-four.” He also told me how much income he expected to need in retirement and asked me to calculate what he would need to save to achieve this. I promised him that we can work it out.
Monday Afternoon
Monday afternoon was a meeting with a potential new retired client. He lived some distance away but I often have to drive my car to meet with clients. He wanted help. He needed to raise capital from his property to pay for his daughter’s wedding.
Tuesday
As yesterday was out and about, today was catching up with messages and admin tasks. A call with a care provider, just a quick hello, goodbye, led to a meeting from which I will be helping and advising clients on how to pay for care, whether at home, live-in or residential. As the population grows older, care is needed here, there and everywhere, and getting financial advice as early as possible can really help.
Wednesday
Wednesday was a long trip to see some clients and review their pensions and inheritance tax planning. The taxman/woman is ever-present, and efficient tax management is a key part of advising clients. A pleasant drive to Dorset, I felt like a day tripper but had to get back as my fiancée was making her famous cheesecake that evening. “Oh! Darling, thank you” Much needed after a long day!
Thursday
Thursday involved training and tests, in this job we have to keep up to date with laws and regulations. If I needed someone to assist I was out of luck as the office was quiet. No procrastinating, get it done today as tomorrow never knows what will be. After several hours of tests and study I finally reached the end. Something told me there will be more exams soon! I feel fine though.
Friday
Friday, with a little help from my friends I managed to locate a client’s old insurance investment that they had lost track of since moving. The client wanted to encash it and gift to his daughter, as she’s leaving home and needs a deposit for the house. I also referred him to my colleague for mortgage advice for her. I’ve got a feeling that this won’t be the last financial help the family need, with two other adult children still living at home!
Saturday
Saturday isn’t always a working day, but I did speak with two clients over the weekend. One client felt like they had been on a magical mystery tour trying to find the best potential income from their ISA, the other had been approached by an unknown investment provider and wanted me to check if it was a scam (it was). I arranged appointments with both. Just a day in the life.
That’s it; there were 21 Beatles song titles hidden above. If you didn’t spot them all, try again, or contact us at Temple Wealth and we will let you know the full list! We can also help with all aspects of financial planning.
I specialise in later-life planning, am a Chartered Associate of the LFBF and a member of SOLLA, the Society of Later Life Advisers. Do get in touch, I, Justin Parsons, would love to hear from you! Thank you.
